¿Por qué un portal sobre niñas en las TIC (Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación)?
¿Ha pensado alguna vez desarrollar una carrera en las TIC? ¿No sabe cómo empezar? Este portal proporciona información práctica sobre programas de becas, prácticas, oportunidades de formación, redes en línea, actividades del día de las niñas en las TIC y otros recursos. ¿Por qué buscar en el sector de las TIC? Una buena razón es la necesidad prevista de profesionales cualificados y el hecho de que muchas empresas y organizaciones están buscando activamente contratar a mujeres de alta cualificación técnica. Este portal está pensado para que se animen las niñas y mujeres jóvenes a prepararse para una carrera en las TIC, e informar a los padres, profesores y otros interesados acerca de la razón por la cual la preparación para una carrera en las TIC es bueno para ellas, bueno para las empresas y bueno para las sociedades.

¿Qué es el Día de las niñas en las TIC?
A pesar de las evidentes ventajas, muchas niñas ni siquiera se llegan a plantear una carrera en las TIC. Hay una falta de información entre las estudiantes, profesores y padres de lo que una carrera en las TIC puede ofrecer. Las actitudes pueden cambiar cuando se invita a niñas a visitar empresas y agencias gubernamentales para conocer profesionales de las TIC y ver cómo es la vida en el trabajo. Por esta razón, los miembros de la UIT, en la Resolución 70 de su Conferencia de Plenipotenciarios (Guadalajara, 2010), acordaron establecer el Día de las niñas en las TIC el cuarto jueves de abril de cada año.
