Advancing ICT through scholarships and research. Provides extensive information on IT careers and scholarships, interviews with men and women who work in IT, Myths about women in ICT.

The program seeks to provide tutoring to students from disadvantaged suburbs to help them get through the stages of higher education with the prospect of obtaining a higher education qualification and build a professional network.  As a participant in the Cercle program, Alcatel-Lucent is directly involved in the pursuit of greater cultural diversity and a broader social mix. It is a public / private partnership with a common objective : diversity.

The program involves young people mainly from 46 secondary schools and 40 universities in disadvantaged urban areas selected by the Ministry of National Education.  The objective is to help them get through the stages of higher education with the prospect of obtaining a higher education qualification in three curricula for excellence:

The leading university for telecoms engineers (ENST in Brittany, ISEP in Paris, etc.)
The leading university for general engineers (ENSEEIHT, ESIEE in Paris, etc.)
The leading university for business (Sciences Po, ESC in Rennes, etc.)

ANU College of Engineering & Computer Science encourage our female students to network with each other, as well as with their male colleagues, on a regular basis so that they build new networks and make new friends to support themselves and each other while studying (and beyond).

From time-to-time the College organises get-togethers for female students, and we particularly welcome their voluntary assistance for outreach programs to help other young women decide on a career in engineering and computer science.

At national, state and regional levels, the ACS commits to create and support initiatives that encourage the entry, development and retention of women in ICT professions generally and within the ACS.  Provides scholarship and career & job information/links.

There are many study options for ICT careers, although a university degree greatly increases the options available to you. Courses that combine ICT with another discipline and those that have strong industry contacts or work programs are gaining popularity. However, it is possible to enter the profession by other routes, such as starting out on an IT helpdesk, and moving upwards as you undertake industry certification and/or vendor training.

Whichever path you choose, however, you can be assured that it’s only the beginning. ICT is so fast paced that a successful career demands you keep your skills and knowledge up to date, and commit to lifelong learning.

Code Like a Girl aims to introduce like-minded girls who are involved in the tech industry and/or enjoy coding. It organizes events during the year aimed at bringing together girls with a passion and interest in technology.

Decoded offers courses on coding, hacking, and digital leadership, among others, with an emphasis on teaching more women to code.  While they do not offer scholarships for their courses, they do offer free online tools for learning HTML and CSS and other web development tips.  Finally, they also have a work experience program.

The Digi-Girls Program for Women has grown out of the successes of our high school programs.  We offer this model to targeted groups of women to improve their technical skills for specific purposes in a supportive environment.

ABS figures show that women are not accessing the Internet at nearly the same rate as men. Further, that women are operating small businesses at twice the rate of men and many are juggling families and a career.  The number of women choosing a technology based career is falling.

Due to this, programs are now targeting home-based, micro and small business women operators to advise ways that technology can help build their business.
Unlike the high school programs, Digi-Girls for Women recognized the need for short sessions which can fit in around family responsibilities.  In general, programs are half day sometimes requiring more than one session.

Digital Divas is a single-sex elective offered to female Year 8, 9, 10 and 11 students. It started at Bartik Secondary School in Melbourne's eastern suburbs in 2008. The program has continued each year and expanded to at least ten other schools. The program involves up to four teaching periods each week over one semester. The curriculum focused on building computing self-efficacy while ensuring the activities were as collaborative as possible, to create a club-type atmosphere in the classroom.

The GET Set Program (GET stands for 'Girls in Engineering & Technology') is a fun, free day of non-competitive activities designed for female students in years 11 and 12 who wish to explore the tertiary study options at ANU and career paths available in engineering and computing.

Some comments from previous participants of the GET Set Program:

"It was great to get exposed to hands on area's information, rather than reading course information online. It was very helpful in determining my options."

"The sessions were great, and they went for a perfect amount of time so we never got bored or tired."

"I liked the fact that we got to go into different areas (of the University) and were able to talk to the people involved."

"It was all very interesting, the activities were great and the presenters were fun to work with."

"I really enjoyed learning about ways in which society is benefiting from engineering."

All-day events for girls in years 5-12 organized during school holidays each year to teach robot programming. Girls work in pairs to build their robot, then to program it to accomplish a series of tasks. Past workshops have included relay-style secret agent missions, navigating forests and labyrinths, finding treasure at X-marks-the-spot, and more!
