MindAfrica Leadership Initiative

MindAfrica is planning to celebrate the Girls in ICT Day on the 28th of April by organizing a 1-day event that will empower 120 secondary school girls between the ages of 13 – 17 years with knowledge and skills that will influence their career decisions and academic success.
The event will also enable the girls interact with leading female role models, participate in hands-on tech workshops and gain insight into the fields of ICTs and the opportunities they offer.

Workshop activities for the day will comprise:
• Introduction to coding with Scratch (50 min): students will discover the basics of coding by customizing video games and animation;
• Introduction to programming with Arduino (50 min): students will discover electronics and start electronic programming with Arduino;
• Fun discovery of robotics (50 min): using M-bots, students will be introduced to the fun world of robotics and getting their robots to follow lines
• Computer skills for beginners (50 min): using interactive software, beginners will be introduced to basic computer skills;
• Tech Girls (50 min): students will be introduced to the exciting world of engineering, trouble shooting and maintenance of computer hardware.
• Introduction to electronics with Electronics Snap kits (50 min): students will learn to snap together electrical components and build circuits.
