IEETECH, Uruguay

I am an Electronic, Telecommunications and Electrical Engineer from Uruguay. For my thesis, I designed and built the Attitude Determination System of the first Uruguayan Satellite.

Throughout my life, my biggest passion has always been outer space. This passion began at the age of four, and since then, I have always tried to become involved in as many aerospace activities as I could.

In 2009, I was awarded the International Astronautical Federation Youth Grant that enabled me to participate in the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) and the Space Generation Congress (SGC). I became very excited about the work done at the Space Generation Advisory Council and currently serve as South America Regional Coordinator.

I have also been very involved with IEEE, being president of the student branch of my University. I presented papers at the IAC in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. In 2011 I was awarded the Peter Diamandis Scholarship to attend the SGC, where I served as projects co-coordinator. In 2011 I was also a participant at the International Space University´s Space Studies Program (SSP) where, together with two friends, I helped design a medical experiment that won the Barcelona Zero-G Aerobatics Challenge.

In 2012 I served as the Space Engineering Department Teaching Associate at International Space University’s SSP.

That year I was also winner of the International Telecommunications Union Young Innovators Competition (http://world2012.itu.int/articles/chipsafer-victoria-alonsop-rez/10193 )and I am currently starting a company, IEETECH, to produce my winning device.

In terms of books, I was a contributor for the latest edition of the world famous text book Space Mission Analysis and Design and I am currently managing editor of a book on small satellite programs.

What would you say are the most challenging and the most satisfying aspects of your work?
