I embarked on a journey in January 2009 to the remote village of Mithakhali with a single goal: to make a difference. My efforts to find common ground, bring people together and create awareness and interest in community development gave birth to a novel "people's center": The E-Center. Since then, I have tried to be the catalyst for change, turning ideas into action. I love the positive experience I gain from reaching out and interacting with people from all walks of life and the host of opportunities this brings. I believe opportunities can take shape within the very problems of our communities. I also believe people are at the heart of all community matters and, therefore, are critical to the development of every individual community. With my academic background in architecture, I gained the ability to craft unique ideas into practical and applicable designs. My dedication to work, coupled with my clear vision of how digital Bangladesh should appear, has shaped Amar-Desh Amar-Gram into a groundbreaking community development platform, a platform that truly involves local people seeking and taking advantage of opportunities or working together to solve problems; thus empowering them to turn their dreams into reality.

What would you say are the most challenging and the most satisfying aspects of your work?

One of the biggest challenges was the online payment gateway. In 2009, Bangladesh didn’t authorize local credit card transactions online. We created a doorway when there was no e-commerce, let alone e-payments. Our project changed the banking system by convincing Bangladeshi banks to open the payment gateway for credit cards and, with the support of Brac Bank, we launched Bangladesh's first-ever e-commerce, which was inaugurated by Bangladesh Bank Governor Atiur Rahman. We proudly boast the first-ever e-commerce transaction in Bangladesh on our site in BDT currency.

The challenge of creating e-awareness among the villagers was another achievement. Some villagers had never had access to computers. Training village youth and building a community around our e-center was another hurdle. Managing such centers and communicating aspects Human Resource Development  were trials for Amar-Desh Amar-Gram. ICT literacy and e-education had to be  leveraged to tackle the most difficult-to-teach and difficult-to-learn subjects and to provide vocational education opportunities  to youths as well as adults to build new skills and improve productivity.

The traditional market system was always a stumbling block for us as our e-trading system breaks "middle-man" syndicates and creates a direct marketplace for the farmers and the producers both nationally and internationally. Obstacles that are still to be overcome include dorruption, syndication and determining how to motivate youth in cities to work alongside their rural counterparts.

What qualifications or certifications did you attain in order to reach your professional goals?

I manage both the team in urban headquarters and the masses in rural areas. I managed thousands of rural beneficiaries by giving lectures and making them aware of the world of technology and how to use e-commerce to trade. I was given the opportunity to attend the Mosaic Young Leadership Training, founded by the Prince of Wales in Doha, Qatar, in 2011.

With My Country My Village, we take computers and web access to the lowest income group and empower Bangladesh's poor with possibilities that were never before available. This project offers the real possibility of a Digital Bangladesh, where digital technology reaches the furthest corners of our country and brings change to countless lives.

I gave women entrepreneurs free training from our e-centers; this project received the Award from Power to Women categories in United Nation WSYA 2011.

I was part of the Bangladesh government's 5-year strategic plan for e-services to enhance citizens' quality of life .

My contribution for rural people led to the digital mela held in 2010 in Mongla upazilla.

I have appeared in national media to encourage women entrepreneurs to enter the IT sector.
