Dr. Sara Jeza Alotaibi
Vice Dean of Deanship of e-learning and distance learning and Assistant Professor at Taif University, Visiting Researcher at University of Southampton and Founder of Saudi Lady geek
Dr. Sara has completed her Master and PhD from University of Southampton in UK. She is a Vice Dean of Deanship of e-learning and distance learning and an Assistant Professor at Taif University in Saudi Arabia, and she is a Visitor Researcher in Web Lab at the University of Southampton in UK. She is also a founder of Saudi Lady Geek and she invented FingerID system that enables Internet users to maintain distributed systems using a scan of their fingerprint as a password. She has received many global and local awards. She has published more than 20 papers and books in reputed journals and international conferences. What would you say are the most challenging and the most satisfying aspects of your work?
The most challenging is keeping up-to-date on the latest technology. This will help me for a better teaching and sharing knowledge about the top technologies.
What qualifications or certifications did you attain in order to reach your professional goals?
I think that it’s important to have a foundation of studying and knowledge at a very young age. Therefore, I studied my Bachelor, Master and PhD without any break!
I received my Bachelor, Master and PhD in computer science, and my focuses on web technologies and the Internet. This gave me a very solid foundation for the web science that have shaped my career since.
This background prepared me for not only the technical roles that I held early in my career, such as a computer Lab Assistant, a web developer, and an instruction designer.

I selected to study overseas especially at University of Southampton because it is a remarkable reputations for innovations in my area which is web science. Also, I got the chance to meet the inventors of the World Wide Web and key leaders of web science and technologies.
If there is one message you would like to convey to young women to encourage them to consider a profession in the ICT sector, what would it be?
Even though it is hard work, there is a need for your help to develop ICT field. Just be patient!.
