The Generation Google Scholarship was established to help aspiring computer scientists excel in technology and become leaders in the field. Selected students will receive 10,000 USD (for those studying in the US) or 5,000 CAD (for those studying in Canada) for the 2014-2015 school year. As part of the scholarship, current high school seniors who are entering their first year of university in 2014-2015 will be required to attend Google’s Computer Science Summer Institute (CSSI) in the summer of 2014. Current undergraduate or graduate students will be invited to attend the Google Scholars’ Retreat in the summer of 2014.

Who can apply?
Generation Google Scholarship for current high school seniors
To be eligible to apply, applicants must:
- Be a current high school senior
Intend to be enrolled in or accepted as a full-time student at a university in the US or Canada for the 2014-2015 school year
- Intend to pursue a Computer Science or Computer Engineering degree, or a degree in a closely related technical field
- Exemplify leadership and demonstrate a passion for computer science and technology
Exhibit a strong record of academic achievement
- Be a student from an underrepresented group in computer science (African American, Hispanic, American Indian, Female, or a Person with a Disability)
- Be available to attend Google’s Computer Science Summer Institute (CSSI) in the summer of 2014.

- General background information (includes contact information and information about your current and intended universities for the 2014-2015 school year)
- Current resume
- Academic transcripts from your current and prior universities (if you have earned a prior degree)
- Two letters of reference from a professor, instructor, adviser or supervisor
- Responses to four essay questions

Their donation will support the education of three of our current Members who are pursuing post-secondary education in 2011 with an emphasis on applied science and technology. Dr. Roberta Bondar Scholarships, Any registered Member of Girl Guides of Canada who is specializing in mathematics, science, applied science or technology and is entering her 3rd or 4th year in an undergraduate program or pursuing post-graduate studies is eligible.

Dr. Anita Borg devoted her adult life to revolutionizing the way we think about technology and dismantling barriers that keep women and minorities from entering computing and technology fields. Her combination of technical expertise and fearless vision continues to inspire and motivate countless women to become active participants and leaders in creating technology.

In her honor, Google is proud to honor Anita’s memory and support women in technology with the Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship. Google hopes to encourage women to excel in computing and technology and become active role models and leaders in the field.

Google Anita Borg Scholarship recipients will each receive a financial award for the academic year. A group of female undergraduate and graduate students will be chosen from the applicant pool, and scholarships will be awarded based on the strength of each candidate’s academic background and demonstrated leadership.

In addition, all scholarship recipients and finalists will be invited to attend a retreat at Google. We know how important a supportive peer network can be for a student’s success. The retreat will include workshops, speakers, panelists, breakout sessions and social activities scheduled over a couple of days.

Through the scholarship, we aim to encourage women to excel in computing and technology, and become active role models and leaders.

Multiple scholarships will be awarded based on the strength of candidates’ academic performance, leadership experience and demonstrated passion for computer science. A group of female Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD student finalists will be chosen from the applicant pool. The scholarship recipients will each receive a €7,000 (or equivalent) scholarship.

The Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing is a series of conferences designed to bring the research and career interests of women in computing to the forefront. Presenters are leaders in their respective fields, representing industrial, Scholarhips/  Online Networks/  Training & Internships/  Other and government communities.

The greenlight for girls foundation ("g4g") is a Brussels-based, international non-profit organization (asbl) under Belgian law, founded in November 2011. We are a volunteer organization with a five-member board of directors who act in strategic and operational capacities.

The mission of greenlight for girls is to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to girls of all ages and backgrounds, in order to stimulate greater participation of girls, young women and career-age women in STEM-related studies and careers. To achieve this mission, we carry out the following types of activities around the world, with a special focus on reaching less-advantaged communities.

a. Girl-focused Events: Teaching STEM, professional skills and interpersonal skills, in hands-on and fun ways, through workshops run by volunteer women role-model practitioners from these sectors.

b. Kid-focused Events: Teaching STEM, professional skills and interpersonal skills through workshops run by volunteer female role model practitioners from STEM sectors. These events are classroom-sized, and reach students, teachers and even parents and other community-members.

c.  Public-Sector Initiatives: Projects and initiatives that promote STEM-related skills -- including eskills and digital literacy -- to young girls, young women and career-age women, with the goal of stimulating interest in these areas and increasing employability of “girls of all ages”.

d. Basic Research on girls/young women in STEM studies and careers: We are about to publish a report on the first-ever such research in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

e. Greenlight Global Scholarship Fund: A grant to provide college-level education in STEM-related areas to girls in disadvantaged communities around the world. Launched in Bangalore, India in 2012. 

The Hackbright Academy Programming Fellowship is a 10 week training programme designed to help women become awesome programmers. They teach the fundamentals of modern web development, then introduce you to Silicon Valley companies looking to expand their engineering teams.

Mentorship programme

Each of thestudents is paired with a mentor from the industry. Our mentors include engineers from Twitter, Google, Pinterest, Hipmunk, Twilio, and other startups.

Guest Speaker Series

Each week there is a different guest speaker covering topics ranging from code to entrepreneurship.

Field Trips

We take field trips to tech companies, conferences, and other interesting events.

HackerYou is a Toronto-based coding bootcamp.Though it is not exclusively for women, they have a high percentage of female participants. In collaboration with Shopify, they offer scholarships.

IFUW offers a limited number of international fellowships and grants to women graduates for postgraduate research, study and training.  IFUW fellowships and grants are open only to women graduates who are members of IFUW's national federations and associations and to IFUW Independent Members.
