A 3-week intensive skills development program aimed at inspiring girls from the Middle East and North Africa to pursue careers in technology. 

Summer camps and workshops to give girls hands on experiences with technology and inspire them to follow careers in technology.

Telecentre Women, in partnership with ITU will extend access to basic ICT training to more than one million disadvantaged women worldwide. The new Women’s Digital Literacy Campaign will leverage the combined reach of Telecentre.org Foundation’s global network of 100,000 telecentres worldwide and ITU’s 192 Member States and 700 Sector Members to deliver training in ICT use following a ‘train the trainer’ model.

Between now and end 2012, training courses will be offered in at least 20,000 telecentres in countries around the world, each of which is expected to train at least 50 women – for a total of one million women trained.

In addition, ITU will contribute a number of curricula developed by its Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT), notably from its Connect a School, Connect a Community initiative, as well as offering its ITU Academy distance learning platform for training purposes.

At the helm of the campaign is telecentre.org, a global program that supports the establishment and sustainability of grassroots level telecentres towards a vision of opening up “digital opportunities for poverty alleviation at the grassroots”. Powered by over 300 organizations, 100,000 grassroots telecentres and over 200,000 individuals with direct stakes in the telecentre movement, telecentre.org originated and drives the Telecentre Women: Digital Literacy Campaign which will:

• bring together a corps of accomplished women from the academic-corporate ICT sector to serve as mentors, tutors, and ambassadors teaching and inspiring telecentre women towards achieving digital literacy and making it work for them.
• motivate the global population of community women to embrace the telecentre movement as workers, associates and potential grassroot users, and acquiring digital literacy in the process.
• recognize the achievements and the swelling ranks of thousands of grassroots telecentre women for the tremendous positive impact they have generated on the lives of other women thru a global search for the Outstanding Telecentre Women Managers.
• stimulate and bring together support and participation of telecentres and networks for the campaign from all over the world, reinforcing them with resource mobilization for fund generation as well as content and curriculum packages for digital and eBusiness skills for community women.
• enlist private and public sector partners, international agencies and local stakeholders demonstrate the role of telecentres in empowering communities in line with the UN standards set by the Millennium Development Goals.

GEMS stands for Girls Excelling in Math and Science and the group has been working since 1994 to increase elementary and middle school girls’ interest in STEM careers. There are GEMS clubs around the world and the website provide resources such as toolkits to start your own club, tips for teachers and parents and research in various related topics. 

STEM Camps

The African Girls STEM camp is part of a major effort by WAAW Foundation to attract more African girls (ages 11-15yrs) into STEM disciplines early in life when career decisions are made.

What is the WAAW STEM Camp?
1.An opportunity for girls to learn about role models in STEM careers, and build mentor relationships.
2.Outstanding instructors with extensive backgrounds in Science, Technology and Math teaching the workshops.
3.A one-week introduction to the world of technology and engineering, with intense individual and team participation.
4.Practical, hands-on lessons promoting experiential learning.
5.A fun residential camping experience making friends and promoting peer communities.
6.A hands-on experience with high-tech equipment and processes.

Scholarships

Our $500 scholarship program initiated in 2008, is aimed at providing timely financial support to academically promising female African Students who are currently in STEM related undergraduate disciplines in an African College or University. Awardees must demonstrate financial need and a strong commitment to participating in building Africa. The initiative also promotes peers networks that provide support and mentoring to ensure completion in their chosen STEM fields.

Mentoring African Women in STEM

One of the keys to improving livelihoods in sub-Saharan Africa is to build and sustain a strong, effective talent pool for the delivery of Science and Technology innovation. This requires fostering the STEM capacity of women while strengthening the mentoring and peer networks.
This initiative expands the impact of WAAWs STEM camps and scholarships, easing the participants access to mentors while building their skills and professional networks. In turn, it brings the groundbreaking work of Professional African women in STEM to the national, regional and global stages, where it is much needed. 
 

Offers female-only coding bootcamps with job placement guarantees.  They also hold summer camps and have online tutorials for educators.  Provides grants for women.

Women, Media and Change (WOMEC) is a national independent Non-Profit and Non-Governmental Organization established in 1994 in response to the need of promoting effective use of the media for the advancement of women.

WOMEC recognizes that women’s issues are a dimension of many issues such as education, health, environment, and human rights, and is committed to giving women public voice and visibility through the mass media to expand their participation in the public arena.

Since WOMEC was founded and in a relatively brief period of operation, its work and activities have earned for it very quickly growing respect and recognition among women’s organization and individual women who seek to make an impact in their chosen fields of endeavor through effective use of the media.

WOMEC is the only such organization in Ghana actively working in this direction.

WOMEC believes all segments of the population must be given equal space to develop their full potentials. In line with this, WOMEC is committed to creating a forum for networking and fostering exchanges among different segments of the population.

WOMEC aims at achieving its goal by:

Providing media skills training for women both in leadership and at the grassroots level
Giving greater visibility to women through the media
Giving visibility to female electioneering candidates through the media before, during and after elections
Serving as a centre of excellence that focuses on the training, capacity building and create a platform for exchange of ideas and facilitates networking of media women in the sub-region for female journalists;
Developing a database on women in the media in Africa which will hold information on the human resources of female journalists in Africa;

Establishing a resource centre for female journalists to learn new skills and access information;
Developing a mentorship program between young female journalists and the older experienced journalists in the West African sub-region;

Organizing ICT training for women NGO’s and women in media to help them to effectively use ICT in their work;
Establishing an exchange program for female journalists in Africa to enable them share experiences, ideas and learn from each other.

Current Programs:
- Women and ICT: We believe that it is essential to engage more women in accessing and using information and communication technologies (ICTs) for equality and development in Africa.

- Women and leadership: By training women in IT and media and giving them a space for discussion, WOMEC is working actively to strengthen the role of the female leaders and is developing the leadership of the women yet to take action in their communities

- Advocacy: Undertake research on gender issues with a view to providing up-to-date facts and figures to service women’s organizations and other institutions concerned with advocacy and awareness creation;

- Services: WOMEC offers a 12 weeks beginner course to women at grassroots level. We set the following

  objectives for the training:

     - to empower women with the power of the new technologies;

    - to bring more awareness among the women about the existence of women’s actions in their countries and internationally;

    - to give them the skills of contributing to a larger discussion and campaign for gender equality.

WeTech stands for Women Enhancing Technology. It is a consortium of different partners that support trainings to enhance girls and women’s careers in technology.

Women in Technology (WiT) is one of Queensland's most respected and active technology industry associations and a peak body for women in the technology industry in Queensland developing a sustainable and growing network of members, sponsors, supporters. WiT aims to promote the achievements of women in the technology industries via relevant events, programs, awards and networks that also provide opportunities for WiT members to grow and develop their skills. WiT has a commitment to be distinguished as a professional and credible organization. WIT is executives, researchers, academics, business owners; students... anyone involved in technology can join this committed, professional and fun community. We offer workshops Career development, Networking, Publicity, Industry recognition and more.

WIT provides a diverse mix of resources to empower Nigerian women, youth, and children. Offerings include hosted events, webinars, articles, training, networking, career fairs, and contests.

Recently, WITIN is supporting an international mobile app challenge that encourages teams of secondary school girls to develop mobile apps, conduct market research, write business plans, and create a funding pitch. Nigerian teams will compete and a national winner will then travel to California to compete globally on May 1st, 2013. Such a challenge is inspiring for any country, yet alone Nigeria, and we look forward to sharing news of the success.

Another current initiative aims to target 10,000 marginalized women for empowerment via ICT by the end of 2013. The hope is that with support, women can create online presences for their businesses. WITIN also supports International Girl in ICT Day and has participated in numerous ITU and Google events.

The Women in Technology (WIT) Project, at Vermont Technical College, is committed to encouraging young women in middle school and high school to study math, science and technology and to explore opportunities for careers in these fields. Through our Summer Technology Camps, Speakers Bureau, and many other programs, we help girls, parents and teachers dispel stereotypes and overcome barriers to girls' educational and career success.

Our goal: to spark high school girls' interest in the future study of engineering and computer science.

The MIT Women's Technology Program (WTP) is a rigorous four-week summer academic and residential experience where female high school students explore engineering through hands-on classes, labs, and team-based projects in the summer after 11th grade. Students attend WTP in either: Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) or Mechanical Engineering (ME).

WTP is designed for girls who have already demonstrated their ability to excel at math and science in their high school classes, but who have very little or no prior background in engineering or computer science.

The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre offers technology-based projects and digital literacy training to girls and women.
