Women in Technology (WiT) is one of Queensland's most respected and active technology industry associations and a peak body for women in the technology industry in Queensland developing a sustainable and growing network of members, sponsors, supporters. WiT aims to promote the achievements of women in the technology industries via relevant events, programs, awards and networks that also provide opportunities for WiT members to grow and develop their skills. WiT has a commitment to be distinguished as a professional and credible organization. WIT is executives, researchers, academics, business owners; students... anyone involved in technology can join this committed, professional and fun community. We offer workshops Career development, Networking, Publicity, Industry recognition and more.

WIT provides a diverse mix of resources to empower Nigerian women, youth, and children. Offerings include hosted events, webinars, articles, training, networking, career fairs, and contests.

Recently, WITIN is supporting an international mobile app challenge that encourages teams of secondary school girls to develop mobile apps, conduct market research, write business plans, and create a funding pitch. Nigerian teams will compete and a national winner will then travel to California to compete globally on May 1st, 2013. Such a challenge is inspiring for any country, yet alone Nigeria, and we look forward to sharing news of the success.

Another current initiative aims to target 10,000 marginalized women for empowerment via ICT by the end of 2013. The hope is that with support, women can create online presences for their businesses. WITIN also supports International Girl in ICT Day and has participated in numerous ITU and Google events.

The Women in Technology (WIT) Project, at Vermont Technical College, is committed to encouraging young women in middle school and high school to study math, science and technology and to explore opportunities for careers in these fields. Through our Summer Technology Camps, Speakers Bureau, and many other programs, we help girls, parents and teachers dispel stereotypes and overcome barriers to girls' educational and career success.

Women in technology Uganda is an initiative that seeks to encourage, inspire and train more women in the tech field through networking, training, mentoring and partnering so as to increase the number of women in tech, the number of techwomen entrepreneurs and more girls to take science courses at university so as to reduce the gender gap and compete favorably with our male counterparts for jobs and improve the livelihoods of women in Uganda.

MENTORING:

Our mentor’s program aims to is to support, stimulate and challenge, using their own extensive skills, knowledge and experience to help you view your business or career in a different light, spot opportunities for development and implement the changes needed for a strong future.

NETWORKING:

This program’s aim is to build relationships with fellow women that are where you are in your career, more advanced than you and to show case women in Technology that are making it big to act as a learning and encouraging fraction for women that want to advance their careers and tech businesses. We bring
together women from different ICT backgrounds, those that are in top management at ICT firms, students seeking to understand the professional world of IT. We hope in the relationships created from these events we create friendships, business partners and professional prospects for our members. This
platform addresses topics of issues that we face as women that hinder our development in the tech world. One issue at a time we will overcome our fears and contribute to this world of tech. through these events great partnerships are formed.

TRAINING:

For businesswomen, we help fill the gap in the economy for both small and growing businesses by equipping businesswomen with skills that will improve their business using technology. The women we work with have the potential to take the next step towards becoming successful entrepreneurs or are running small businesses that have already had some success but are looking for ways to expand their success with the limitations presented to African women in business.

Our second group of training is for young girls/women that have an interest and passion in coding, developing and designing, our trainings are both in mobile and web applications. We have hands on learning apprentice approach where you get to work on real projects as you learn or perfect your skill as a woman in technology.

Our third category is to create clubs in secondary schools to enourage young girls to join the tech field by showing them exciting tech ideas and sharing success stories of fellow women in tech, when they leave secondary school our hope is to bring them into WITU for our other programs to keep supporting their passion for tech.

The mission of Women in Wireless is to empower and develop female leaders in mobile & digital media.

Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) is a non-governmental organisation initiated in May 2000 by several women’s organisations in Uganda to develop the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) among women as tools to share information and address issues collectively.

WOUGNET’s mission is to promote and support the use of ICTs by women and women organisations in Uganda, so that they can take advantage of the opportunities presented by ICTs in order to effectively address national and local problems of sustainable development. The new ICTs, in particular, email and the Internet facilitate communication with each other and the international community. Indeed, access to information about best practices, appropriate technologies, ideas and problems of other groups working on similar concerns have been identified as critical information and communication needs of women organisations in Africa.

While our emphasis is directed towards Internet technologies, we are also interested in how these technologies can be integrated with traditional means of information exchange and dissemination including radio, video, television and print media. Our goal is to improve conditions of life for women by enhancing their capacities and opportunities for exchange, collaboration and information sharing.

WOUGNET activities are carried out under three major program areas:

The free, 14-week program (30-hours per week) provides participants with an opportunity to explore careers in trades and technology and to take part in career decision-making activities. This progam seem more geared for trades rather than technology. Contact listed if for the Halifax branch

Women Who Code helps connect women in technology.  They offer technical training, professional development, industry advocacy, networking, and gender inclusion consulting for businesses.

Seeks to narrow the tech gender gap by teaching women how to code during two-week online courses through periodical challenges and the opportunity to communicate with instructors and other students. They are not free, but they are relatively cheap compared to other online or in-person coding courses.

Our goal: to spark high school girls' interest in the future study of engineering and computer science.

The MIT Women's Technology Program (WTP) is a rigorous four-week summer academic and residential experience where female high school students explore engineering through hands-on classes, labs, and team-based projects in the summer after 11th grade. Students attend WTP in either: Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) or Mechanical Engineering (ME).

WTP is designed for girls who have already demonstrated their ability to excel at math and science in their high school classes, but who have very little or no prior background in engineering or computer science.

The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre offers technology-based projects and digital literacy training to girls and women.

All women and girls confidently exercise their information and communication rights to create social capital and wealth that positively impacts on their lives.

Women’sNet is a South African based non-governmental organisation that strengthens women and girls movements for social change through the strategic use of information communication tools and advocacy that promotes access, the right to information and freedom of expression. Women’sNet achieves this through the following:

 - Women and girls are empowered to use, control and adapt new information and communication tools, skills and knowledge to meet their own needs and to claim their rights.

 - By collaborating with networks and campaigns Women’sNet successfully advocates for policy change that promotes gender justice, internet rights and freedoms.

 - Women’sNet is a key player in advocating for universal access to affordable, secure and gender aware information and communication technology services.

 - Women’sNet is an effective, innovative lead agent for social change with knowledgeable and skilled people.

 - Women’sNet is a learning organisation with systems to monitor and evaluate our interventions in order to increase our impact and deepen our practice.

Women'sNet Approach

The Women'sNet model rests on three pillars, information/content generation linked to networking and capacity bui lding. Examples of how content development has gone hand-in-hand with capacity development of women's organisations include the work done in preparation of the Violence Against Women site, the human rights site, and the governance site. In the context of building networks for action, this is a tried and tested developmental model for ICT work, and has underpinned all Women'sNet capacity development and content generation activities.

This model en sures Women'sNet's sustainability and the sustainability of South African women's organisations in the long term. Without the engagement with women's organisations and efforts to build their capacity, content flow to the Women'sNet site will be impeded. As it is, most women's organisations lack the capacity and resources to use and engage with ICTs without some facilitation by Women'sNet. Furthermore, without women's organisations' active participation in content generation, Women'sNet loses its authenticity and uniqueness.

Wonderful ICT Girls Can Do IT! seeks to stimulate girls' interest in science and technology through "enjoyable activities with robotics, electrical circuits, virtual simulators and multimedia educational software."  The organization holds Saturday workshops and university students also mentor younger girls.

Youth Crime Watch Liberia's Girls in ICT Project provides training for women in ICT skills.  The organization aims to "improve job mobility; improve access to higher education; improve livelihood" and "improve social status" through these classes so that women may become high-level "scholars, entrepreneurs, and leaders" in the country.  Women are also able to sign up to use computers outside of class.
