For Women and Girls:  Explore ICT Opportunities

This part of the Girls in ICT Portal contains links to scholarships, contests and awards, training and internships, online networks, tech camps, information about national Girls in ICT Day events and other initiatives to encourage and support women and girls to enter the ICT sector.  Please note that any questions you may have about any of the listed programs should be directed to the program provider.

For Academia, Companies, Governments and Organizations: Help Keep the Portal Current

ITU encourages academic institutions, companies, government and aid agencies, NGOs, and others that offer scholarships, contests and awards, training and internships, online networks, tech camps, and Girls in ICT Day events to add new programs and update the information posted here to keep it current.  All you need to do is register and add or edit information about your program.  The Girls in ICT Portal administrator will review your content before posting it to the public.

How to search?

Users can filter the resources in line with their own needs.  You can filter by type of program and the region and country in which the program is offered. You will find countries listed under the relevant region. Programs offered globally or which are not specific to one region can be found by using the global program filter.  You may refine the search to best meet your needs.

SCWIST is  a non-profit association that promotes, encourages and empowers women and girls in science, engineering and technology. The two signature programs are ms infinity, a mentor program for young girls, and IWIS, Immigrating Women in Science

Provides Grade 9 girls in Newfoundland and Labrador opportunities to explore careers in the trades and technology sectors and to challenge stereotypes and barriers that undermine women‘s participation in these sectors, through research, mentoring, and worksite visits.

An industry-led coalition of employers, universities and industry organizations, founded by Bell Canada; focus on IT training and HR, seeks to address historically low female participation (25%).

It is a unique week-long program held at the University of Waterloo (UW) and the University of Calgary every June. The program is designed to ignite enthusiasm for computer science in interested grade 9 and 10 female students from across Canada. Through lectures, labs, and hands-on activities, the seminar explores the foundations and applications of computer science that have a profound effect on the world today.

The Chair for Women in Science and Engineering for Ontario (CWSE-ON) works to increase the participation of women of all ages in science and engineering.  In collaboration with partners and volunteers from across the province, CWSE-ON delivers and supports innovative outreach, research, networking and advocacy initiatives towards this goal.

Awarded to a student who has completed a college level diploma in IT, as well as one year at UPEI in the Business Administration or Computer Science program and who has an overall average of 70% or over. Not specifically for women.

This scholarship is open to female students entering the second year of a degree program in either the College of Arts and Science or Edward's School of Business with a major in Computer Science. Students must enroll in 12 credit units of Computer Science at a 200-level as determined by the Selection Committee and described in the guidelines.
