The greenlight for girls foundation ("g4g") is a Brussels-based, international non-profit organization (asbl) under Belgian law, founded in November 2011.  We are a volunteer organization with a five-member board of directors who act in strategic and operational capacities.

The mission of greenlight for girls is to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to girls of all ages and backgrounds, in order to stimulate greater participation of girls, young women and career-age women in STEM-related studies and careers.  To achieve this mission, we carry out the following types of activities around the world, with a special focus on reaching less-advantaged communities.

1.  Girl-focused Events:  Teaching STEM, professional skills and interpersonal skills, in hands-on and fun ways, through workshops run by volunteer women role-model practitioners from these sectors.  Events have a turn out of 100-500 attendees each, with up to 100 volunteers/workshops per event.  Examples:

2.  Kid-focused Events:  Teaching STEM, professional skills and interpersonal skills through workshops run by volunteer female role model practitioners from STEM sectors.  These events are classroom-sized, and reach students, teachers and even parents and other community-members.

3.  Public-Sector Initiatives:  Projects and initiatives that promote STEM-related skills -- including eskills and digital literacy -- to young girls, young women and career-age women, with the goal of stimulating interest in these areas and increasing employability of “girls of all ages”.

  • Get Online Week (March 2012):  GOW Launch Event on International Women’s Day, celebrating “digital women & the future workforce,” with twenty 16-26 year old young women and several Belgian & European VIPs, including VP Neelie Kroes of the European Commission.

3.  Basic Research on girls/young women in STEM studies and careers:  We are about to publish a report on the first-ever such research in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

4.  Greenlight Global Scholarship Fund:  A grant to provide college-level education in STEM-related areas to girls in disadvantaged communities around the world.  Launched in Bangalore, India in 2012.

greenlight for girls was in incorporated in November 2011 and has been carrying out activities, run by board-members, country managers and our "daisy-chain" volunteer network, and funded in part by private sponsors, since April 2010.

Please contact us if you are interested in contributing to the foundation’s strategic growth, individual activities, or if you would like to become a member of our global g4g "daisy-chain" network.
